Leaving Stuttgart
October 3, 2007

I just had a traditional Bavarian breakfast: beer, pretzels, and white sausage. I'm going to have that for breakfast every day from now on.

Stuttgart is great, and I finally have some pictures. They're uploading right now, which may delay this post, and probably means I won't put them inline, so go check them out en masse.

First we went on a couple of walks in the afternoon, around a picturesque abbey with beautiful fall colors, and then a small schloss in a university town. I was falling asleep near the end from jetlag unfortunately, but so was the very cute child.

After a quick 15 minute nap, it was time to head downtown for Cannstatt. Cannstatt is set up kind of like a giant state fair, except it also has huge beer halls.

We ate Haxn, and the pictures don't really show how big it was, nor the layer of fat that was between the delicious pork and the incredibly fried and salty skin.

Not pictured are the large steins and the bread needed to eat it all. After a quick ride on the ferris wheel to get some aerial photos, we stopped for another beer. Everybody was very friendly, and we had several very colorful encounters.

On to Istanbul!
