The Christmas Nut
At the height of the Great Depression, little Wayne's family had plenty of food from their farm, but no money for presents. Wayne really wanted one though, so his mother found a nice big Filbert nut to be his Christmas gift. Very excited, he waited until Christmas morning to open his present, only to find the nut was bad and contained no edible meat.
As told to me by my grandmother Lois about her brother Wayne. I also
learned how my grandparents avoided "Charivari" by taking
a roundabout route in their Model A back to the University of Michigan
after their marriage in Oregon.
