Simple stuff and uniform whiteness

One thing I dislike about not writing for a while is then it seems really hard to post anything, because it seems like a significant post should break the silence.

Well, this isn't one.

In other news, my legs are sore, but being off-line for a couple of days was great and I'm starting to feel like I know how to ski a little.

On the second day of skiing I went up to the top of Whistler alone first thing since I didn't make it to the peak the first day (I planned to, but instead dropped one of my poles while riding a lift, and it had to be rescued by the rest of Jamglue).

The snow was thick enough that there was very poor visibility, and I found myself going down a run unable to see anything except an extremely uniform whiteness broken only by the occaisional rock poking through the snow. Partway down I made out a small hump ahead, and reached out with my poles to increase my momentum enough to get over, only to have the snow snatch at them and reveal that I was actually speeding along much faster than I felt comfortable with. A few minutes later I got low enough that the trees came back and the world felt real again, but the complete disconnect between sight and motion for that brief period was pretty cool. Definitely something that surfing can't offer.

Oh, and right after that I got way off the trail and had to hike uphill towards the sounds of people skiing. I was glad when the sun came out.
