Travel bias

Charles sent me this article about Ojai, and before reading it I wrote a whole blog post in my head about how travel writing can make an ordinary place like Ojai sound exciting. Obviously posting every day is taking its toll.

Except the article doesn't really make me want to go there, so maybe my enjoyment of places like Assisi or Urqhart Castle on Loch Ness isn't only because I'm a starry-eyed visitor. Still, as somebody who lived for six years in a place that's at least slightly travel-writer-worthy, I bet lifetime residents of "real" utopias and vacation spots read similar pieces with amusement. Life is pretty much the same everywhere.

Something real tomorrow, I promise.
